Aligning to the broader Office 2007 retirement in October 2017, Office 365 will no longer be using the RPC/HTTP protocol that connects older versions of Outlook to Exchange Online. Which means customers still using Outlook 2007 will lose email functionality. By 31 October 2017, Outlook 2007 users will need to upgrade Office to maintain mail connectivity.
