YCG Donates Server to local Chamber of Commerce

One of the things I love about being a small business is that I get to work with other small businesses and also get to create some great relationships. When I first started the business in 2004, I joined the local chamber of commerce, and really didn't do anything with the chamber the 1st year. The 2nd and 3rd years have been very nice to me. I have met some really great people from the chamber, and we received some really nice clients too!
When I heard that they were going to be starting a Technology Committee, I couldn't resist. We meet monthly and go over the wish list of things that we think the chamber needs or would like to have. We are the only Small Business Specialist in Royal Palm and we decided that it was time to give back. We set the chamber up with the help of Ron Tomchin, and now the chamber has some more options to help them work easier and smarter. As with new technology comes training, which we are still trying to work out, so the staff can start using the features of Small Business Server.

This March, Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes for the United States, starting the time change 4 weeks early. Congress in its infinite wisdom changed DST in the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Other countries such as Australia have followed suit. For most people, this will come as an early relief from winter doldrums, but for IT, the DST change is a major headache. After Year 2000, IT vendors were smart enough to start using 4-digit date codes, but DST changes are still hard-coded for the 1st Sunday of April and the last Sunday of October.

Over the last 3 years we have had a mediocre web site and logo. It had all the basics, and it said everything that it needed to for the most part, and it did a good job. In 2007 we needed to sweeten our deal. Since November I have been meeting with our marketing team, and the general census was, we needed a professional look. Our old logo had a cartoon look to it, and sometimes we would get the "oh that's cute" when we went onsite. The new logo has been through the ringer. We had input from clients, friends & family. I think all in all, we looked at close to 25 different logos. I saw the version of this, and loved it, tweaked it, and so far have been getting a good response. We now have that professional look we have been looking for.
